pat, pull the trouble codes. The ecu will store them. Take a paperclip and bend it into a "U" shape. Then look under the driverside dash. There will be a diagnostic port there. plug the paperclip in the top row(far right) 2 holes. Then turn the ignition to the (ON) position. Next, watch the check engine light. IT should flash like this......
flash pause...............flash,flash(code 12, 3 times)
it will do that 3 times then any codes stored will follow that.
once done it will flash code "12" three times again. That means the computer is done.

Pat, pm me with your number if you need any phone help

Copied this off the web... might be the same thing for 93. Hope it helps.

Your ’91 Geo Strom has a diagnostic connector, but it is not the type that a code reader for the newer vehicles can be plugged into. You’ll need a manufacturer type scan tool or an after market tool with the appropriate adaptor. You can also flash the codes on this vehicle. On the passenger side of the dash, just to the right of the glove box and tucked up behind the lower dash panel, are three diagnostic connectors. One will be green with 5 cavities. This one is for the automatic transmission’s computer if equipped. There will be two 3 cavity connectors. One will be orange for the air bag system and the remaining 3 cavity connector should be white. The white connector is the one used for flashing codes from the engine computer. To get the computer to tell what codes are present you have to turn the ignition on (not running) and ground the # 3 terminal in the white connector. This will cause the computer to flash the diagnostic trouble codes via the check engine light

I did find this Geo storm enthusiasts website for ya...and I thought I had weird car hobbies! It says here to jumper the outer two terminals of the connector with the clear plastic cover on it. Probably get some people to help you out better there. I really don't know dick about Geos to be honest.

You're just making that up I'm sure....

Sounds like it's time change the hamsters again, they can only run so fast in that little wheel.

Sorry, I couldn't resist anymore.

On the GM computers of that vintage, a check engine light is usually a sign of a bad O2 sensor. Don't know about the Isuzu powertrains.

did the test and the code is 32=egr valve. the old engine had one on the manifold that plugged into the harness the new engine did not. should i just change over the old int. manifold to the new engine or is there something else i can do?

Pat, when you do an engine exchange such as this it is MANDATORY that all the ORIGINAL manifolds be swapped onto the new engine. NO EXCEPTIONS! When you buy a used engine you should only be using the long block. This is the only way to ensure that all the correct sensors and equipment are present to work with your existing wire harness and computer. You will need to correct this to make vehicle smog legal as well.

oh craig i know you were going to say that . i remember our conversation at the races about it. i already took the mainfold off the other engine in order to switch it over. thing about it is i thought about it when i was changing the engine that i should do the manifold also but got lazy. oh well looks like i have to get some gaskets .
