Car Toys
Im getting my stereo system re-done in my Nordic Rage this spring. I'm thinking of taking it to Car Toys in Havasu. Anyone know anything about them, good or bad??? Also, are there any other company's out there that do quality work, they are the only ones I recall seeing. Im trying to avoid bringing it back here to California. Thanks in advance!

Nothing but good things to say...
I have had various repairs and replacements done at CarToyz in Havasu. Usually last-minute replacements...get-me-back-on-the-water-in-a-hurry-type activities. Frank and his guys have always been there for me, with a CD-changer replacement (Frank did this himself on a Saturday morning at 7:00 a.m.) or fixing a blown amp. Early in the morning, on the weekend, no appointment...can't say enough nice things about them.

Frank at Car Toyz will take care of you and not BS. I highly recommend them for any work you need done in Havasu. If have dealt with him a few times and sent numerous people to him. Everybody has been very happy with the service and product he provided them with.

Don't know it as a fact, but I would bet they do. Car Toyz is more than a stereo shop, they also do lifts, tinting, a little of everythig.

Remote start can be quite difficult on today's newer cars. I'd make sure they have a competent security specialist before they did a job for me. Auto security and audio couldn't be more different.

SWB- Is it poss. to install remote start on a diesel motor that requires you to wait for the coil to warm?? Does anyone make a system that has like some kind of delay while it heats up.

Yes, most remote start products that I've used have diesel settings. We use Autopage at WFS, they have them, so do Clifford, which I've installed in the past.

Perfect, I'll head to WFS when the truck is ready.
Thanks, KELLY

My Valet pager alarm starts my Powerstroke.
It's made by Directed Electronics, they make Clifford, Valet, Viper, Python, and various other names with the same product. They have a module that will work on just about any type of vehicle. Almost all car stereo shops install alarms, for most of them it's the biggest percentage of their business.

Security makes up a very small percentage of most audio shop's business and an even smaller profit center. The installed price is maxed out at ~$500 and the higher end products are extremely time consuming. A "good" security install, not a Circuit City type job, can take upwards of 3-4 hours. Everybody hates security, but it's a necessary evil.

I agree it may not be the most profit of the business, but it seems like every one is willing to buy an alarm, not everyone wants to upgrade their stereo system. It's hard to make a good profit on a 250.00 dollar alarm when you have a couple of hours labor and parts into it. Much easier to move a head unit that's marked up 30 or 40 percent and install it in 30 minutes. Same with overheads and headrest monitors, you get a decent mark up and the installations are relatively easy.

A few years ago, actually more than a few years because until 6 mos ago, I hadn't worked for almost 7 years, alarms were booming. The shop I worked at would do at least five $1000 alarms a week, in addition to all the $250-500 jobs. All we did was security, there's not a lot of overhead involved. Nowadays, it seems like most people are satisfied with their factory security, most of which is pretty decent.
With the advent of eBay, there's not a ton of money in equipment anymore, the real money is in custom labor.
