Alvin Newton ’78 DiMarco hydro
DSCF0228.JPG DSCF0232.JPG DSCF0235.JPG DSCF0236.JPG
This full custom restoration of a hull that was legendary at the liquid track, especially in the gas classes, is as meticulously executed as it is beautifully named. Sonny DiMarco never envisioned anything like this in his southern California dragboat racing heyday, and Kevin Felkins had his artistic way with the distinct shape of this snub-nosed, picklefork hydro – to the tune of brilliant blue, purple, green, and a lot of yellow. This ’78 rendition was brought back from the boneyard under the enthusiastic propulsion of its hydro-loving owner, and Ron Gross Racing. Joe Gross lent a valued assist in the buildup, which features outboard steering. You won’t see a cleaner installation anywhere, centering around a carbureted 468 that Gross built. Check the painted floor, and the superb detail, accented with a full chrome assault.
